Your Computers Might Be Useless by October—and No One’s Telling You Yet

Your Computers Might Be Useless by October—and No One’s Telling You Yet

April 07, 20254 min read

Windows 10 support officially ends on October 14, 2025. That date isn’t flexible. It’s not a warning. It’s a hard deadline—after which Microsoft will no longer provide updates, security patches, or technical assistance for devices running the OS. That alone is a serious issue. But what’s worse is how many businesses are about to discover they can’t upgrade their existing computers to Windows 11. Not because of software—but because of hardware.

This isn’t just a technology refresh. It’s a mandatory transition that’s already affecting tens of thousands of organizations. And if you haven’t had this conversation with your IT team yet, it’s time.

Most Computers Built Before 2018 Won’t Make the Cut

Microsoft has imposed strict minimum system requirements for Windows 11. These aren’t just suggestions—they’re hard limitations. Devices need compatible processors, TPM 2.0 security chips, UEFI firmware with Secure Boot, and other architectural requirements that didn’t become standard until around 2018.

That means any device older than five or six years is most likely already obsolete in Microsoft’s eyes—even if it’s running perfectly well today. These are machines that open documents, run business apps, connect to printers, and support day-to-day work. And now they’re about to be discarded, not because they failed, but because the OS they rely on is being cut off.

If you haven’t completed a full inventory of your systems yet, there’s a good chance you’ll be caught off guard. Many businesses still rely on older workstations that were intended to last seven or even ten years. Those systems won’t be eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade. They’ll need to be replaced entirely.

The Cost of Waiting Until October Will Be Brutal

Many companies are assuming they have time. The reality is they don’t. If your business has dozens—or even hundreds—of endpoints that need to be replaced, you’re already looking at a complex, time-sensitive rollout. And as we get closer to October, the situation will get worse.

IT providers are already experiencing backlog issues. Hardware vendors are prioritizing large corporate buyers. And local availability is shrinking. When Q3 hits, there will be a massive rush from companies that waited too long. That’s when pricing spikes, timelines explode, and your risk increases dramatically.

Now is the time to act—not six months from now when you're stuck with limited inventory, overpriced options, and rushed deployments.

This Isn’t Just an IT Problem—It’s a Business Continuity Issue

There’s a misconception that end-of-life operating systems are just a tech concern. That’s not true. Once Microsoft ends support for Windows 10, any device still running it will be vulnerable to cyberattacks. It also won’t comply with most data privacy regulations, including HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or NIST guidelines. That means fines, failed audits, and a total loss of insurance eligibility in some industries.

Even if you “get by” running Windows 10 past the deadline, the long-term risks are enormous. No security patches. No technical support. No integration with new software tools. And eventually, applications you rely on will stop working altogether. These aren’t hypotheticals—they’re documented consequences of using unsupported systems in a modern business environment.

GenCare Has a Plan—and the Hardware to Execute It

We saw this coming. That’s why GenCare took action months ago. We secured 400 brand-new, Windows 11-compatible PCs before the tariff hikes hit in March. These machines are business-grade, fully tested, and ready to deploy. They meet every requirement for Windows 11, and we’re offering them to clients at pre-tariff pricing.

That means you don’t need to scramble for machines in Q3. You don’t need to pay inflated prices, settle for inferior models, or wait on backorders from suppliers. You get access to proven, enterprise-ready hardware at a price that makes sense—backed by a team that will help you implement a full replacement plan before the October deadline.

Whether you need 5 machines or 150, we’ll help you build the right roadmap, prioritize critical systems, and ensure zero downtime during the transition.

Has Your IT Provider Talked to You About This Yet?

If you haven’t received a plan—or at least an alert—from your current IT partner, that’s a major red flag. This deadline has been known for years. The hardware requirements aren’t new. The supply chain issues are obvious. And the tariff increase is already affecting every reseller in the country.

This is the kind of moment where your IT provider should be proactive, not reactive. If you’re not confident they have a handle on your hardware situation, it’s time to get a second opinion.

We’re here to provide that clarity. Even if you’re not a current GenCare client, we’ll review your device inventory and tell you exactly where you stand—no pressure, no obligation. If you choose to move forward with us, we’ll make sure you have access to the systems you need before the market dries up

You Don’t Get a Second Chance to Fix This Later

There’s no workaround. No patch. No shortcut. Unsupported machines must be replaced, and time is running out.

Call your IT company today and ask for a full Windows 11 compatibility report. If they can’t give you a straight answer, directly call at 818.497.7616. We’ll get you the hardware you need before your options disappear.
