GenCare has been in business for nearly 40 years, and since 2005 we have been owned entirely by our own employees. There is no outside investor and no distant corporate parent.

The technicians, engineers, account managers, and staff who support you each hold a real stake in the company they work for.

That ownership shows up in ways you can feel. Our people stay, so the engineer who learns your environment this year is still here to support it years from now. Decisions get made by the people who do the work and answer to you directly. And because everyone here is building something they own, they hold themselves to an owner's standard.

How We Became Employee-Owned

In 1986, Randy and Nancy founded GenCare with a small team and one priority: take care of the client. The company grew, and eventually they had to decide what would come next. They had watched other small companies get bought by larger firms, stripped of what made them worth buying, and pushed aside.

They wanted none of that for the people who had helped build the business. So Nancy raised a different idea: sell the company to the employees.

Randy researched it, found a structure called an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and learned everything he could about how it worked. From 1992 to 2005, they sold the company to the ESOP, first 49 percent and then the final 51 percent to the team. The employees paid off the note in about two years. Since 2005, GenCare has been 100 percent employee-owned.
